Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer and Mike Yorkey

It’s 1944 and the Mona Lisa, known to the French as La Joconde, has been removed from its home at the Louvre for protection. It is hidden away at a chalet near the French/Swiss border. However, Reichsmarschall Hermann Goring, one of Hitler’s men, has been trying to buy up much of the art in the war torn area for his own personal collection. What other piece would complete his collection other than the Mona Lisa? Thus, he instructs his men to get the piece. A few Parisians and Swiss OSS agents, including a curator at the Louvre, know of these plans and try to protect the priceless painting themselves. Will they be able to protect the Mona Lisa, or will it fall into German hands?
While I was expecting this to be a great book, I was disappointed. It was a good book, but not one to be on list of favorites. While some of the French may trip people up, everything in French was translated. The story wasn’t as fast paced as I was expecting, and there was too much background that could have been condensed or eliminated.
I give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
I received this book from Revell for the purpose of this review.
